India’s new era under Khalid Jamil takes another step forward as the national team coach announced a 23-man list of probables for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027 Final Round Qualifier against Bangladesh.
The Blue Tigers are set to regroup in Bengaluru on November 6 before traveling to Dhaka on November 15 for the crucial qualifier at the National Stadium on November 18.
A Blend of Familiar Faces and Fresh Energy
The list sees a mix of seasoned internationals and rising names. Mohammed Sanan, originally slated for India’s U23 side, has been promoted to the senior squad — a significant nod to the youngster’s growing reputation.
Meanwhile, players from Mohun Bagan Super Giant are yet to link up with the camp and are expected to join later, as the club completes its domestic commitments.
The 23 Probables
Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Hrithik Tiwari, Sahil.
Defenders: Akash Mishra, Anwar Ali, Bikash Yumnam, Hmingthanmawia Ralte, Muhammed Uvais, Pramveer, Rahul Bheke, Sandesh Jhingan.
Midfielders: Ashique Kuruniyan, Brison Fernandes, Lalremtluanga Fanai, Macarton Louis Nickson, Mahesh Singh Naorem, Nikhil Prabhu, Suresh Singh Wangjam.
Forwards: Irfan Yadwad, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Mohammed Sanan, Rahim Ali, Vikram Partap Singh.
Sunil Chhetri Misses Out
Notably absent from Khalid Jamil’s list is Sunil Chhetri, India’s long-time captain and all-time leading scorer. His omission marks a defining shift for the Blue Tigers. Chhetri’s absence leaves both a tactical and emotional void, but it also opens the door for a new generation of attackers to stake their claim. Players like Vikram Partap Singh, Rahim Ali, and Lallianzuala Chhangte will now carry the responsibility of leading India’s front line.
Building Momentum Under Jamil
This will be Khalid Jamil’s first competitive test since taking charge of the national team, as India aim to solidify their path toward Asian Cup 2027 qualification. The camp in Bengaluru is expected to focus on tactical structure and attacking efficiency — two areas Jamil has emphasized in recent interviews.
With a blend of established leaders like Sandesh Jhingan and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, alongside dynamic talents such as Suresh Singh Wangjam and Vikram Partap Singh, India will look to strike a balance between stability and flair in Dhaka.
The countdown to the Bangladesh clash begins — and with Jamil at the helm, all eyes are on how India’s next chapter unfolds.
