Defending women’s singles champion Barbora Krejcikova is set to begin her Wimbledon 2025 campaign against Filipino rising star Alexandra Eala in what promises to be an exciting first-round clash.

According to Olympics.com, the Czech star, who captured her second Grand Slam singles title last year, enters the tournament after a brief Eastbourne outing, which ended prematurely due to an injury just before the quarterfinals.

The 20-year-old Eala, meanwhile, comes into the match with confidence, having enjoyed a breakout season that includes a run to the Miami Open semifinals and a strong showing at Eastbourne, where she reached the final four — the last major grass-court event before Wimbledon.

Another high-profile opening clash will see China’s Zheng Qinwen, the reigning Olympic gold medallist, take on the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova, a double Olympic champion, in a battle of champions.

Among the British hopefuls, top-ranked Emma Raducanu begins her campaign against fellow Briton Mimi Xu. Both players are placed in the same section of the draw as world number one Aryna Sabalenka, setting the stage for potential blockbuster matchups later in the tournament.

In other notable fixtures, British player Katie Boulter has a tough opener against world number nine Paula Badosa. Meanwhile, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will begin her final appearance at SW19 with a first-round tie against world number 10 Emma Navarro. The 34-year-old Czech veteran has announced that she will retire following the US Open later this year.

Among this year’s Grand Slam winners, American duo Madison Keys and Coco Gauff look to continue their strong form. Australian Open champion Keys will face Elena-Gabriela Ruse, while US Open winner and world number two Gauff takes on Dayana Yastremska, as she eyes her maiden Grand Slam title on grass.

With a blend of legends, emerging stars, and home favourites, the Wimbledon 2025 women’s draw promises high drama from the very first round.
