New Chelsea signing Joao Pedro says lifting trophies is at the heart of his ambitions after completing a long-term move from Brighton & Hove Albion last month.
The 23-year-old Brazil international, who has signed a contract through to 2033, told JioHotstar, “When you join Chelsea, there’s only one thing to think about: winning titles. In every tournament you play, you represent Chelsea, and the goal is to win. That is my ambition — to win titles with Chelsea.”
Pedro said Chelsea’s history played a key role in his decision. “Growing up in Brazil, I saw so many people watch football and support Chelsea. I was one of those youngsters. Chelsea has had brilliant players in the past and still has great players now. It’s a big club, and that’s why I chose to join,” he said.
The versatile attacker revealed he sought advice from Chelsea legend David Luiz. “I’m a little close to David Luiz. I spoke with him about Chelsea, my career, and how I can develop better, and he has been very helpful,” he said.
Capped three times by Brazil, Pedro described himself as a “quality, technical player” who enjoys scoring goals and creating chances, having also played in midfield early in his career.
On adapting to life at Stamford Bridge, he said, “Spending a long time in one league makes it easier for a player to adapt. Moving from my previous club to Chelsea is easier because it’s the same league, just different players. Once I start training with my new teammates, it will be good.”
