India U17 began their SAFF U17 Championship 2025 title defence with a 6-0 win over Maldives in their Group B opener at Racecourse International Stadium, Colombo, on September 16.
The Blue Colts took control early, using pressing, quick passing and wing play to overwhelm the Maldives. Dallalmuon Gangte scored twice, while Hrishikesh Charan Manavathi, Kamgouhao Doungel, Wangkheirakpam Gunleiba and Aazim Parveez Najar added a goal each.
Gangte opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by Manavathi’s goal in the 29th. Doungel netted in the 49th minute and Gunleiba struck in the 58th. Gangte converted a penalty in the 68th minute, before Najar sealed the win in the 86th.
India showed strong tactical control and depth, with multiple substitutions contributing to the result. Head coach Bibiano Fernandes’ side will look to maintain momentum in their next group match.
