Legendary Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has extended his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr until 2027, confirming his continued presence in the Saudi Pro League (SPL), ESPN reported on Thursday.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ronaldo wrote, “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together,” signalling his commitment to the club he joined in late 2022 following the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 39-year-old forward, who left Manchester United as a free agent in December 2022, originally signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Al Nassr. His contract made him the highest-paid athlete in the world — a position he has retained for the past three years, according to Forbes. His estimated total earnings now stand at approximately $275 million.
Since arriving at the Saudi club, Ronaldo has made a staggering impact, scoring 93 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions. Despite his prolific form, he is yet to win the SPL title, with Al Nassr finishing second in the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons and third in 2024–25. However, he did help the team lift the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Earlier this year, Al Nassr sporting director Fernando Hierro had expressed the club’s desire to retain Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing that other clubs were also eyeing a move for the veteran star. This came after Ronaldo hinted that Al Nassr’s final match of the season against Al-Fateh might be his last for the club.
Still going strong at 40, Ronaldo recently led Portugal to the UEFA Nations League title, defeating Spain in the final. With a career total of 932 goals — 794 at club level and 138 for Portugal — the five-time Ballon d’Or winner now has his sights set on the 1,000-goal milestone.
