India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is in the enviable position every skipper dreams of — too many players in top form. After steering India to a 2-1 series win over Australia in Brisbane, Suryakumar called the team’s growing depth across departments a “good headache” ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Confidence Across the Board

Suryakumar praised the balance between senior and emerging players, saying India’s performances in all areas have fueled belief in the dressing room. “Both fast bowlers and spinners know their job very well. Bumrah-Arshdeep is a lethal combination. And then Axar, Varun are coming in, doing what they do best. And Washi is coming in handy in the last game,” he said, crediting the bowling group’s variety and composure.

The captain highlighted that India’s bowlers, seasoned by extensive T20 cricket experience, now thrive under pressure. “They’ve played a lot of T20 cricket now, they bring a lot to the table and are backing themselves. Good headache to have — lots of players have been doing really well,” he added.

Series Turnaround and Team Spirit

After dropping the opening game, India bounced back with intent — a comeback Suryakumar credited to the entire squad. “The way everyone chipped in and the way we came back from 0-1 down, credit to all the boys. It was a good series with bat, ball, and in the field as well,” he said.

Fire and Fire at the Top

The skipper also applauded the attacking starts from openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, who have formed a fearless pairing. “They both are looking to match each other’s strike rates. It’s a combination of fire and fire,” Suryakumar noted, commending their adaptability and communication.

Abhishek, named Player of the Series, echoed the sentiment. “We’ve been playing together since U-12 days, so there’s great understanding. I know which bowlers he’s targeting and vice versa. He also guides me on which shots to play,” he said.

Building Towards the World Cup

Looking ahead, Suryakumar sees the upcoming clashes against South Africa and New Zealand as perfect preparation before the global showpiece. “Playing three strong teams — Australia, SA and NZ — is going to be a great buildup before the World Cup,” he said, adding that the energy around Indian cricket remains sky-high after the women’s team’s recent World Cup triumph at home.

With competition for places fierce and form across the squad peaking, India’s captain believes his side is shaping up just right for a strong T20 World Cup campaign.
