Mumbai’s teenage batter became the youngest player in history to score a century in all three professional formats — first-class, List A, and T20 — after a breathtaking knock in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Vidarbha in Lucknow.
A Knock That Changed the Record
Chasing 193 at the Ekana Stadium, Mhatre dismantled the target with a 49-ball hundred, finishing unbeaten on 110 off just 53 deliveries. Mumbai cruised to a seven-wicket win with more than two overs to spare, but the result almost felt secondary to the milestone being set.
At 18 years and 135 days, Mhatre eclipsed the previous benchmark held by Rohit Sharma, who achieved the feat at 19 years and 339 days. Unmukt Chand remains the other notable name on the list, having completed the trio of centuries at 20.
Making a Big Chase Look Small
Vidarbha’s 192/9 was no push-over, built on half-centuries from Atharva Taide and Aman Mokhade. Yet once Mhatre found his rhythm, the chase tilted decisively.
His innings, laced with eight fours and seven sixes, placed immediate strain on the bowlers. Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 39 off 19 balls provided the finishing thrust, but the chase had already been broken open by Mhatre’s fearless strokeplay.
More Than a One-Off Season
This century didn’t arrive in isolation. Mhatre has featured heavily across formats this season, and his form has not gone unnoticed. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has named him captain of the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup — a clear vote of confidence in both his leadership and temperament.
Franchise cricket is watching closely too. Chennai Super Kings have retained Mhatre ahead of the next IPL season, an early sign that his trajectory is being tracked beyond the domestic circuit.
