Pacer Akash Deep produced a career-defining performance at Edgbaston, claiming 10 wickets across both innings to guide India to a 336-run victory over England – their first-ever Test win at the venue. The 27-year-old’s sensational spell also earned him the Player of the Match award.
Akash finished with match figures of 10/187, surpassing Chetan Sharma’s long-standing mark of 10/188 to register the best bowling performance by an Indian in England. His second-innings haul of 6/99 sealed the win and cemented his place in the record books.
Speaking to Revsportz’s Boria Majumdar after the match, Akash called it his best bowling display. “Yes, you can say that for sure, but there was no special mindset behind this. I was playing after a long time, so I just wanted to bowl in those areas,” he said, adding that an early breakthrough boosted his confidence.
For Akash Deep, the team’s success outweighed personal milestones. “Individual performance didn’t matter to me. What mattered was that I was able to make my country win with those 10 wickets. That will be something very memorable in my life,” he said.
The pacer’s feat, which came after a gap in international appearances since the Australia series, silenced critics and marked a new chapter in his career.
