West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has been fined 15% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day of the first Test against Australia in Bridgetown.

The sanction relates to Sammy’s comments during a media interaction at the end of Day 2, where he criticised one of the match officials (TV umpire) following multiple incidents during play. He was found to have violated Article 2.7 of the Code, which addresses public criticism or inappropriate comment regarding match incidents or personnel.

Sammy, 41, admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite.

In addition to the fine, one demerit point was added to Sammy’s disciplinary record. It is his first offence in the past 24 months. Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of a 50% match fee fine, with one or two demerit points.

Australia secured a 159-run victory in the first Test after dismissing West Indies for 141 in the final session on Day three. Josh Hazlewood led the bowling with figures of 5-43.

The second Test is scheduled to begin on 3 July at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s.
